Columbian Exchange

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columbian_Exchange
"Before the Columbian Exchange, there were no oranges in Florida, no bananas in Ecuador, no paprika in Hungary, no tomatoes in Italy, no coffee in Colombia, no pineapples in Hawaii, no rubber trees in Africa, no cattle in Texas, no donkeys in Mexico, no chili peppers in Thailand and India, no cigarettes in France, and no chocolate in Switzerland."

Boy, oh boy, do we take some things for granted!

  2. Well, the New Worlders already had their own god myths, and some were even more unpleasant than those of the Old World, including human sacrifice and like. I'd say the replacement of these with Old World god myths was a relative step up, from a human rights perspective.

  3. Mmmh, but the indians who didn't want to be converted were burned or tortured which is also quite unpleasant no ? :)
